The music world loves a talented individual, but many become overwhelmed by the passion and pressure around them in their youth. Not Ivy Yi Chang. He began his musical education at the age of three and debuted in Taiwan at the age of twelve with the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E minor. Today, she is known globally, having built a long career of success due to her continued passion for music and performing. She is a distinguished violinist, pianist, mentor, teacher and passionate advocate for the power of music.
let passion lead the way
Chang was a young woman who had many gifts. With the enthusiastic support of her parents, she could pursue many different careers. “I thought about my future for a long time,” says Chang. “As someone with many interests, and excelling not only in music but also academically, I asked myself, would music Is this what I want to do with the rest of my life?”
He decided to give priority to his love for music. This will be a decisive, fundamental decision. Moving to America to pursue a career in music performance, she won scholarships to the pre-college and college divisions of the Manhattan School of Music, giving her access to some of the best music teachers in the world.
Chang’s passionate commitment to music paid off and she began performing nationally and internationally. Her resume would eventually include performances at such prestigious venues as Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall and Zankel Hall, Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, and the Palais Auersperg in Vienna. She has appeared in Germany, Italy, Spain, China and beyond, captivating audiences around the world. At times, pursuing the pursuits of his first love, and Chang’s deep love of musical performance, has taken him around the world.
Educational success from one generation to the next
Chang has achieved considerable academic success while studying music at renowned institutions. After graduating from SUNY Purchase College with the President’s Achievement Award, she was invited to pursue advanced studies at a prestigious university. There, he earned an Artist Diploma in Music before moving on to the Doctor of Musical Arts program at the Mason Gross School of Music under a full scholarship.
Despite so much success behind him and a long career ahead of him, Chang has begun working as a consultant himself. While he has received many awards and certificates from competitions, his students have also excelled. Chang is proud of his students’ performance in the examinations of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, where they often receive the highest marks.

“Becoming a musician is a lifelong aspiration,” says Chang, “we constantly move forward and better ourselves.” In addition to sharing amazing music with audiences, I truly believe that music can heal, encourage, create joy, and bring hope to anyone who listens. This belief has propelled Chang toward a long career of self-improvement and helping others learn how to control their passions and pursue their musical aspirations. “The best reward for me is sharing this most amazing art with the world,” she says.
