California is under a state of emergency due to the recent outbreak of bird flu. As residents grapple with the news, many are learning more about the virus — how to watch for signs and symptoms and where the infection began are among the top questions.

Building on California’s testing and surveillance system – the largest in the country – we are committed to protecting public health, supporting our agriculture industry, and ensuring Californians have access to accurate, up-to-date information. “Although the risk to the public remains low, we will continue to take all necessary steps to prevent the spread of this virus.”
