Ackermann : at Tom Ford

Haider Ackermann is making waves in the fashion world once again. Just a few months after becoming the first-ever creative director at Canada Goose, he’s now taken on a new role. On the morning of September 4, Ackermann was announced as the new creative director for Tom Ford. As expected, this exciting news came with several updates, including the date of his debut runway show for Tom Ford. In an interview with Vogue Business, Ackermann shared how proud he is to take on this role, saying, “I will seek to honor the legacy of Tom Ford, a man I have long admired and deeply respect.”

This move comes more than a year after Tom Ford stepped down in 2023, following the sale of his brand to Estée Lauder. Ford himself has praised Ackermann, saying he’s been a fan of his work for a long time, noting Ackermann’s skill with color and modern designs. Ford added that he’s eager to see Ackermann’s take on the brand and promised to be the first to applaud at his debut show in March 2025 during Paris Fashion Week. Ackermann will be in charge of all areas of Tom Ford, including womenswear, menswear, accessories, and eyewear. Given his past work, especially his love for luxurious fabrics and bold designs, it seems likely that Ackermann will easily continue Ford’s tradition of creating sleek, sophisticated, and sensual pieces.

Although Ackermann hasn’t worked with Tom Ford before (unlike his predecessor Peter Hawkings, who left unexpectedly in July 2024), he brings over 25 years of experience in luxury fashion. He started his career in 1998 as an intern at John Galliano and launched his own brand in 2002. Though Karl Lagerfeld once suggested Ackermann as his potential successor at Chanel in 2010, it didn’t happen. Ackermann later became the creative director at Berluti from 2016 to 2018 and most recently gained attention for his work as a guest designer for Jean Paul Gaultier at Paris Haute Couture Week in 2023.

Haider’s Designs

Ackermann’s designs have been a favorite among celebrities like Timothée Chalamet, Tilda Swinton, Kendall Jenner, Blake Lively, and Cate Blanchett. Blanchett, for example, wore one of Ackermann’s designs at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, while Khloé Kardashian was spotted in one of his pieces earlier this year.

Even William P. Lauder, the executive chairman of Estée Lauder Companies, expressed his excitement, saying that Ackermann’s vision will help elevate Tom Ford’s global influence on fashion and culture. As we approach his first collection for the brand, there’s plenty of anticipation around what Ackermann will bring to the Tom Ford legacy. Keep an eye out for updates on his journey as the new creative director.
